The key role of organic fertilizers in agriculture

Organic fertilizers play a vital role in agriculture, one of which is to provide crops with necessary nutrients. By applying organic fertilizers, nutrients in the soil can be effectively supplemented to meet the needs of crop growth, thereby promoting the health and high yield of crops. This nutritional contribution is not only reflected in the growth process of crops, but also related to the quality and yield of agricultural products, bringing significant benefits to agricultural production.

1. Increase crop yield

Through the application of organic fertilizers, the soil nutrient supply is improved, and the crop yield is significantly increased, especially when used in combination with chemical fertilizers. The yield increase effect is obvious. Key nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the soil are effectively activated and released, thereby enhancing the nutrient supply capacity of the soil. Under the same planting conditions, crops can obtain more sufficient nutrients, thereby achieving a significant increase in yield.

2. Optimize crop quality

The simultaneous application of chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers increases the content of important nutrients in wheat and improves its edible and processing quality. Organic fertilizers play an important role in improving crop quality, especially in the nutritional growth stage of crops. When chemical fertilizers are applied together with organic fertilizers, the albumin and globulin content in wheat will increase significantly, while the alcohol protein and gluten content will also increase. The changes in these components directly affect the edible taste and processing quality of wheat, thereby optimizing the overall quality of the crop.

3. Improve crop stress resistance

Organic fertilizers buffer the acidity and alkalinity of the soil, provide a stable growth environment, reduce heavy metal toxicity, and delay the aging of crop roots. Organic fertilizers also show significant effects in enhancing crop stress resistance. It can buffer acidic and alkaline inorganic fertilizers in the soil and provide a stable growth environment for crops. Plots where organic fertilizers are applied for a long time can significantly reduce the occurrence of ammonia damage and reduce its degree of toxicity. In addition, organic fertilizers made from composted poultry and livestock manure are rich in organic acids and other components, which can be complexed with aluminum and heavy metals in the soil, thereby reducing the toxic effects of these elements. On the other hand, the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in wheat roots is usually related to the aging process of the roots. After applying organic fertilizer, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in wheat roots is improved, which can effectively inhibit the accumulation of MDA and thus delay the aging process of the roots.

4. Enrich soil nutrients

Organic fertilizer increases the content of organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus, accelerates the accumulation of fast-acting nutrients, and promotes plant absorption. By applying organic fertilizer, the organic matter content in the soil can be significantly increased, and the content of key nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus also increases accordingly. When organic fertilizer is applied to the soil, the organic matter in it will be decomposed by microorganisms, and the organic nutrients will be converted into fast-acting nutrients for direct absorption and utilization by plants. In this process, substances such as carbon dioxide, organic acids and inorganic acids are also produced. Carbon dioxide can be directly absorbed by plant leaves, while organic acids and inorganic acids can promote the dissolution of those insoluble inorganic nutrients in the soil, thereby further increasing the fast-acting nutrient content of the soil. Therefore, the application of organic fertilizers not only increases the potential nutrients in the soil, but also accelerates the accumulation of quick-acting nutrients.

5. Improve soil physical and chemical properties

Organic fertilizers improve soil structure through the humification process, enhance water retention and buffering capacity, and increase soil temperature. During the humification process, organic fertilizers will be partially converted into humus. These humus can effectively improve soil structure, enhance soil water retention and fertilizer retention capacity, while improving its buffering performance and helping to increase soil temperature.

6. Stimulate soil microbial activity

Organic fertilizers increase the number and activity of microorganisms, reduce environmental pollution, and reduce pesticide and heavy metal poisoning. By applying organic fertilizers, the number of beneficial microorganisms in the soil is increased. At the same time, these fertilizers provide a suitable living environment for microorganisms, thereby significantly stimulating the activity of soil microorganisms. In addition, the rational use of organic fertilizers can also help reduce the pollution of soil, water and air caused by excrement from concentrated livestock and poultry breeding, and can effectively eliminate or reduce the toxicity of pesticides and heavy metals to crops.
